RIDE TO KENNYWOOD
On Sunday, May 18, 2008 Allegheny County
Camp Cadet will be hosting the first motorcycle RIDE TO KENNYWOOD. This ride will serve many purposes.
The first is to commemorate NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK, which is a time when the nation pays respect to all law
enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Sunday will be the conclusion of National
Law Enforcement Week. In the years pass the Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial (L.E.O.M.) has hosted
a Blue Mass in Pittsburgh. This years Blue Mass will take place at the St. Paul Cathedral in the Oakland
section of Pittsburgh at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2008. Directly after the Blue Mass Bishop Zubik will
bless the motorcycles who will be participating in the RIDE TO KENNYWOOD.
The second purpose is to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the community. The
RIDE TO KENNYWOOD and the Blue Mass are open to ALL and we encourage the public to participate. Law enforcement
realizes the value of the communities’ help in combating the crime in this area and across the country.
Sometimes this is easier said then done. Through events such as this it gives all of us an opportunity
to inter-act in a social setting.
The third and final purpose is to help
fund the Allegheny County Camp Cadet program which is a non-profit organization which annually hosts a free youth camp for
children of Allegheny County. Our goal is to foster Discipline, Team Work and Esteem. The
PA State Police has several camps across the Commonwealth, but this camp is fairly new compared to the others.
This camp is also a collaboration of several law enforcement agencies across the county from local, county, state and
federal. This camp is not for youth who have been involved in criminal activity. This
camp is an opportunity for the youth who are making positive decisions to challenge themselves. This is
another event to enhance that relationship between law enforcement and the community.
Once again the RIDE TO KENNYWOOD will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2008 and will begin after the blessing of the bikes
by Bishop Zubik. The ride will be a Police escorted ride through several communities and ending at Kennywood.
To register to can visit www.alleghenycountycampcadet.org or contact the PA State Police at 412-294-1116.
Non riders can also participate in the efforts by purchasing a discounted Kennywood ticket for $20 at any AAA office
in Allegheny County, Dave Smith Chevrolet on Frankstown Rd. in Penn Hills, Sharpsburg Municipal Building or contact the PA
State Police-Pittsburgh Station at 412-294-1116.
Kennywood will be hosting Motorsports
Day on this Sunday so we encourage all to come out and celebrate our communities.
